Spanish Music and Dance

Spanish music is often considered abroad to be synonymous with flamenco, a West Andalusian musical genre, which, contrary to popular belief, is not widespread outside that region. Various regional styles of folk music abound in Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia, Castile, the Basque Country, Galicia and Asturias. Pop, rock, hip hop and heavy metal are also popular. In the field of classical music, Spain has produced a number of noted composers such as Manual de Falla and Enrique Grandos and an incredible amount of singers and performers. In Spain there are over forty professional orchestras. The Major opera houses include the Teatro Real, Grand Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Arriaga and El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia. There are many things to listen to in spain if you live there and even if you’re touring you can listen to good music or even see good music such as at the opera houses. Thousands of music fans also travel to Spain each year for internationally recognized summer music festivals which often features the top up and coming pop and techno acts and many more acts of music. These festivals mark Spain as an international music presence and reflect the tastes of young people in the country. The most popular musical instrument in spain is the guitar. The guitar was actually originated in Spain which is very interesting. Typical of the north are the traditional bag pipers or gaiterosmainly in Asturias and Galicia. I recommend that people look more into listen to spanish music cause it is very interesting and enjoyable.

Spanish Christmas Tradition

Spain’s christmas is full of festivities. There is one tradition that is not common anywhere else in the world. This tradition was created before christmas was and this tradition is called Hogueras which means bonfires. It is the observance of the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and the beginning of winter. It is characterized by people jumping over fires as a symbolic protection against illness. This fire-jumping can be seen primarily in Granada and Jaen. The more common tradition include incredibly elaborate “Nacimiento”. This means nativity scenes. Spanish Christmas dinner is never eaten until after midnight. It is a family feast, and often highlighted with “Pavo Trufado de Navidad”. After the meal all of the family members gather around the christmas tree and sing christmas carols and hymns of Christendom. Christmas Day in Spain is spent at church, at feasts and in more merry-making. A custom peculiar to Spain is that of “swinging.” Sings are set up throughout the courtyards and young people swing to the accompaniment of songs and laughter.

The second half of the 20th century has been mostly dominated by soccer over in spain. Spain also has some other popular sports basketball, tennis, cycling, handball, motorcycling, formula one racing, water sports, golf and also snow sports. Not only does spain have all these sports but they also have hosted a number of International sports. The International sports they have hosted were the 1992 Summer Olympics that was held in Barcelona, Spain also hosted the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Those are some huge events to be putting on in a country and Spain should be very proud to say they hosted those International sports. Not only is Spain’s soccer team Unbelievably good but they have other sports they are very good as well. Spain’s tennis team has won the Davis cup five times and Rafael Nadal has won Wimbledon two times in 2008 and in 2010. Spain’s basketball team isn’t to bad either they have won the world basketball championship, the Eurobasket and they have also won the Europe League. Spain has some really good teams that people do not recognize because all they know or here is about soccer. People should take more notice towards the other sports teams and not just the soccer programs even know they are phenomenal.

Real Madrid Soccer

Gareth Bale is the new boy for Real Madrid. He is very excited to be part of the “Famous Club”. Bale would love for one day that people mention him with other players from this club in the same sentence. Carlo Ancelotti will be managing Bale and the club in the upcoming season. Bale is very excited to have Carlo as the manager because he is known as a winning coach and has won at all the clubs his been at prior. Gareth has also heard nothing short of how great of a manager Carlo is and that everyone loves him as a manager. Not only did Bale go to this squad for the coaching but he also went for the players that are on the team. The current star player of the team is Cristiano Ronaldo. For Bale, he says that Ronaldo is the best player in the world right now. Bale cannot wait to play with Ronaldo and he sure cannot wait to learn from one of the best players in the league. The real question is will these two stars work well together to preform and win trophies for the club. Bale hopes that one of the trophies they win will be the Champions League. Time to see how well these two work together.
